India state-run trading firm PEC Ltd has invited bids to import 50,000 tonnes of yellow peas from Canada, expected to be delivered by February 15.
Bids will close on January 10 and the decision on the tender will be taken by January 17, the company said on its website.
As per the tender, bidders should source 50,000 tonnes of yellow peas grown in the 2010 crop year in Canada.\
The shipment of 25,000 tonnes each should reach Mumbai and Kolkata ports, respectively, between January 15 and February 15, it said.
Public sector trading agencies like PEC, STC, MMTC and cooperative NAFED, imports pulses at zero duty on behalf of the government to augment domestic supplies.
India's pulses production has stagnated at 14-15 million tonnes, while the demand is estimated to be 17-18 million tonnes. The gap is fulfilled through imports from Myanmar, Australia, Canada and Tanzania.
