Integrated steel firms and standalone pellet producers in Odisha have achieved pellet production of 6.26 million tonne in the April-December period of 2014-15 as against the installed capacity of 26.1 million tonne per annum.
Last fiscal, pellet production stood at 6.2 million tonne, said a written statement to the state assembly by steel & mines minister Prafulla Mallick.
Of the total installed capacity of 26.1 million tonne, 9.25 million tonne is meant for captive consumption while the balance 16.85 million tonne is for merchant sale. Pellet producers are unable to achieve full capacity utilisation due to raw material scarcity and lack of ore availability at suitable prices.
Firms involved in pellet production in the state include Essar Steel Ltd, Jindal Steel & Power Ltd (JSPL), Arya Iron & Steel Company Ltd, Ardent Steel Ltd, Shree Metaliks Ltd, MSP Steel & Power Ltd, Brahmani River Pellets Ltd (BRPL), Bhushan Power & Steel Ltd and Shyam SEL & Power Ltd.
