Pepper, chilli fall on subdued demand

Black pepper and red chilli prices fell by Rs 100 per quintal in the national capital today, influenced by weak local and export demand at existing higher prices.

Black pepper prices fell by Rs 100 to settle at Rs 22,000-22,100 per quintal.

Red chilli traded Rs 100 lower at Rs 6,200-11,400 per quintal due to fall in demand at prevailing higher levels.

Marketmen said reduced offtake by stockists and exporters at existing prices pulled down pepper and chilli prices at the wholesale kirana market here. 

Following are today's quotations (per quintal):

Ajwain 16,000-19,500, black pepper common 22,000-22,100 betelnut (kg) 120-145, cardamom brown-Jhundiwali (kg) 1,040-1,050 and cardamom brown-Kanchicut (kg) 1,150-1,300

Cardamom small (kg): Chitridar 1,000--1080, cardamom (colour robin) 1,170-1,180, cardamom bold 1,190-1,200, cardamom extra (bold) 1,270-1,280 and cloves (kg) 330-400
