Pepper, chilli rise on fresh buying support

Black pepper and red chilli prices rose by Rs 100 per quintal in the national capital today on increased buying by stockists as well as exporters amid firming trend in futures trade.

Tight stocks following poor supplies from producing belts also influenced the prices. Pepper and red chilli prices rose by Rs 100 each to settle at Rs 23,300-23,400 and Rs 6,100-11,100 per quintal, respectively.  

Traders said increased buying by stockists driven by rising exporters' demand, mainly pushed up pepper and chilli prices at the wholesale kirana market here.

Following are today's quotations (per quintal): 

Ajwain 12,500-19,000, black pepper common 23,300-23,400 betelnut (kg) 120-145, cardamom brown-Jhundiwali (kg) 1,100-1,110 and cardamom brown-Kanchicut (kg) 1,200-1,350

Cardamom small (kg): Chitridar 1,300--1,350, cardamom (colour robin) 1,370-1,380, cardamom bold 1,390-1,400, cardamom extra (bold) 1,490-1,500 and cloves (kg) 340-400
