Black pepper and jeera prices rose by Rs 200 per quintal each in the national capital today on fresh buying by retailers as well as exporters.
Tight stocks in the market as speculators held back their produce in anticipations of better prices, which influenced the surge. Black pepper prices rose by Rs 200 to conclude at Rs 20,500-20,700 per quintal.
Jeera common and jeera best quality also traded higher at Rs 14,100-14,400 and Rs 15,300-15,800, against the previous closing of Rs 13,900-14,200 and Rs 14,100-15,600 per quintal, respectively.
Traders said sentiment turned better on pick up in domestic and export demand, against restricted arrivals, which pushed up pepper and jeera prices on the wholesale kirana market here.
