Pepper, turmeric rise on stockists buying

Black pepper and turmeric prices firmed by Rs 100 per quintal each in the national capital today on increased buying by stockists due to domestic and export demand.

Fall in supplies from producing regions also supported the rise in prices.

Black pepper and turmeric prices rose by Rs 100 each to conclude at Rs 22,400-22,500 and Rs 17,600-20,900 per quintal respectively.

Traders said increased buying by stockists on the back of pick up in domestic and export demand, mainly pushed up pepper and turmeric prices on the wholesale market here.

Following are today's quotations (per quintal):

Ajwain 16,000-19,500, black pepper common 22,400-22,500 betelnut (kg) 120-145, cardamom brown-Jhundiwali (kg) 980-990 and cardamom brown-Kanchicut (kg) 1,200-1,225

Cardamom small (kg): Chitridar 960-990, cardamom (colour robin) 1,000-1,100, cardamom bold 1,125--1,140, cardamom extra (bold) 1,190-1,210 and cloves (kg) 330-400
