Pepper up on paucity of stocks

Black pepper prices rose by Rs 100 per quintal in the national capital today on paucity of stocks against increased buying by local and upcountry stockists.

Firming trend in futures market followed by favourable advices from the producing regions also supported the rise in prices. Black pepper prices rose by Rs 100 to conclude at 16,700- 16,800 per quintal.

Following are today's quotations (per quintal):

Ajwain 10,500-15,500, black pepper common 16,700-16,800, betelnut (kg) 85-105, cardamom brown-Jhundiwali (kg) 600-605 and cardamom brown-Kanchicut (kg) 645-690

Cardamom small (kg): Chitridar 1100-1,190, cardamom (colour robin) 1,250-1,275, cardamom bold 1,280-1,295, cardamom extra (bold) 1,325-1,350 and cloves (kg) 280-330
