Potato prices declined by 0.53% to Rs 898.10 per quintal in futures market today as speculators reduced positions, driven by sluggish demand in the spot market against increased supplies.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, potato for delivery in March declined by Rs 4.80, or 0.53%, to Rs 898.10 per quintal in business turnover of 45 lots.

Likewise, potato for delivery in April shed Rs 3.40, or 0.39%, to Rs 873.90 per quintal in 6 lots.

Market analysts said fall in potato prices was mostly due to reducing of positions by speculators in line with a weak trend at spot market on sluggish demand against increased supplies from producing region.
