Potato futures prices fell by Rs 9.40 to Rs 587 per quintal, as traders offloaded their holdings at the existing higher levels on account of weakening trend at the spot market.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, potato for delivery in April fell by Rs 9.40, or 1.57%, to Rs 587 per quintal, with a trading volume of 20 lots.

The potato for May delivery shed Rs 7.70, or 1.23 per cent, to Rs 617.50 per quintal, with a trade volume of 27 lots, while March delivery eased by Rs 7.40, or 1.18%, to Rs 615 per quintal, with a business volume of 359 lots.

Traders said fall in potato futures prices was due to off-loading of positions by speculators amid increased arrivals from producing regions.
