Potato futures prices fell by Rs 13.50 to Rs 599 per quintal today as speculators offloaded their positions, driven by less offtake in the spot market.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, potato for June contract fell by Rs 13.50, or 2.2%, to Rs 599 per quintal, with a business volume of 67 lots.

The potato prices for delivery in May eased by Rs 8.20, or 1.35%, to Rs 595.20 per quintal, with a business volume of 504 lots, while April contract also traded lower by Rs 2.20, or 0.36%, to Rs 606.50 per quintal, with a trade volume of 724 lots.

Analysts said fall in potato prices was mostly due to offloading of positions by speculators, driven by subdued demand in the spot market.
