Potato prices fell by 1.39% to Rs 978.10 per quintal in futures market today as speculators offloaded their positions, triggered by increased supplies from producing regions against weak demand in spot markets.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, potato prices for far-month April fell by Rs 13.80, or 1.39%, to Rs 978.10 per quintal in business turnover of 27 lots.
Likewise, the potato for delivery in March lost Rs 11.80, or 1.18%, to Rs 987 per quintal in 222 lots.
Analysts said the fall in potato prices at futures trade was due to increased supplies from producing regions against weak demand in the spot markets.
