Potato prices fell by Rs 8.40 to Rs 617.80 per quintal in futures trade today as traders offloaded their positions amid sluggish demand in the spot market.

Increased arrivals from producing regions also put pressure on potato prices.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, potato for delivery in April fell by Rs 8.40, or 1.34%, to Rs 617.80 per quintal in four lots.

In a similar fashion, potato for March contract delivery lost Rs 5.70, or 0.88%, to Rs 639.50 per quintal in 153 lots.

Traders attributed the fresh fall in potato futures to increased arrivals from producing regions and subdued demand in the spot market.
