Potato prices gained Rs 2.70 to Rs 655.60 per quintal in futures trade today, as speculators enlarged their positions on rise in demand in the spot market.

Restricted arrivals from the producing region also supported the uptrend.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, potato for April contract gained Rs 2.70, or 0.44 per cent, to Rs 655.60 per quintal, with a business volume of single lot.

The potato for delivery in May contract also traded higher by Rs 2.60, or 0.38 per cent, to Rs 686.50 per quintal, with an open interest of one lot.

Market analysts said increased buying by speculators on rise in demand in the spot market helped potato futures prices to trade higher.
