Potato futures prices rose further by Rs 14.40 to Rs 683 per quintal today, as traders continued to enlarge their positions for the ongoing marriage season demand.

Tight supply from producing regions also supported the uptrend.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange counter, potato for delivery in May rose by Rs 14.40, or 2.15 per cent to Rs 683 per quintal, with a business turnover of just one lot.

Similarly, the potato for delivery in March-contract moved up by Rs 6.10, or 0.92 per cent to Rs 672.50 per quintal, with a trade volume of just one lot.

Marketmen said increased buying by speculators on rising marriage season demand in the spot market, mainly led to the rise in potato futures prices.

They added that restricted arrivals from producing belts also influenced the trading sentiment to some extent.
