Potato prices rose by Rs 17 to Rs 647 per quintal in futures trade today as traders enlarged their positions on good demand in the spot markets, supported by the on-going marriage season.

Restricted arrivals from producing regions also supported the uptrend in potato futures.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, potato for delivery in May contract rose by Rs 17, or 2.70 per cent to Rs 647 per quintal in a single lot.

Similarly, potato for delivery in April contract moved up by Rs 9.80, or 1.62 per cent to Rs 614.80 per quintal in just one lot, while March contract quoted higher by Rs 10, or 1.60 per cent to Rs 635.10 per quintal in one lot.

Experts said rising demand in the spot market due to the ongoing marriage season amid restricted arrivals mainly pushed up potato prices in the futures trade here.
