Potato futures prices rose by Rs 5.20 to Rs 631.50 per quintal as speculators enlarged their positions on rising spot demand.

Restricted arrivals from producing regions further fuelled the uptrend.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange counter, potato for delivery in April rose by Rs 5.20, or 0.83 per cent, to Rs 631.50 per quintal, with a business turnover of just one lot.

Likewise, the potato for delivery in March gained Rs 5, or 0.78 per cent, to Rs 649 per quintal, with a trade volume of just one lot.

Analysts said rising demand in spot market amid less arrivals from producing regions mainly helped the surge in potato futures prices.
