Potato prices gained Rs 6.80 to Rs 668.40 per quintal in futures trade today, as speculators enlarged their positions on pick up in demand at spot markets in view of marriage season.

Less arrivals from producing regions further fuelled the uptrend.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange counter, potato for May gained Rs 6.80, or 1.03 per cent, to Rs 668.40 per quintal, with a business volume of single lot.

Similarly, the potato for delivery in April-month moved up by Rs 5.30, or 0.85 per cent, to Rs 627 per quintal, with just one lot.

Analysts said rise in spot market demand for the marriage season amid fall in arrivals from producing regions mainly pushed up potato futures prices.
