Potato prices rose by Rs 4.30 to Rs 706 per quintal in futures trade today, as traders enlarged their positions on rising demand in the spot market.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, potato for April delivery contract rose by Rs 4.30, or 0.61 per cent, to Rs 706 per quintal, with a business turnover of just one lot.

The potato for delivery in March also moved up by Rs 3.10, or 0.44 per cent, to Rs 715 per quintal, with a business turnover of four lots.

Market analysts said fresh buying by traders due to rising demand on the back of ongoing marriage season led to rise in potato futures prices.

They added that less arrivals from the producing regions also supported the uptrend.
