Potato prices moved up by Rs 1.90 to Rs 592 per quintal in futures trade today as speculators created fresh positions, supported by pick-up in demand in the spot markets.

Tight arrivals from producing regions also supported the uptrend.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, potato for delivery in May moved up by Rs 1.90, or 0.32% to Rs 592 per quintal, with a business turnover of two lots.

Similarly, the potato for delivery in June traded higher by 60 paise, or 0.14% to Rs 560.20 per quintal, with an open interest of two lots.

Market analysts said fresh buying by speculators on pick-up in demand in the spot market mainly led to rise in potato futures prices.
