Potato prices rose by Rs 7.10 to Rs 586 per quintal in futures trade today as traders enlarged their positions on pick-up in spot market demand due to domestic enquiries.
Also, restricted supply from producing regions supported the uptrend.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, potato for delivery in May rose by Rs 7.10, or 1.24%, to Rs 586 per quintal. with a trading volume of 126 lots.
The commodity for delivery in June traded higher by Rs 6.90, or 1.23%, to Rs 565 per quintal, with a business volume of 37 lots.
Likewise, potato for delivery in April gained Rs 2, or 0.31%, to Rs 639 per quintal, with an open interest of 74 lots.
Market analysts said increased buying by traders and speculators on pick-up in demand in the spot market mainly led to rise in potato prices at futures trade.
