Potato prices marginally higher by Rs 3.70 Rs 643 per quintal in futures trade today, as speculators enlarged their positions on pick up in spot market demand due to marriage season.

Restricted supply from producing regions also supported the uptrend.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange counter, potato for March contract rose by Rs 3.70, or 0.57 per cent to Rs 643 per quintal, with a trading volume of 158 lots.

Potato for April month contract traded higher by Rs 3.60, or 0.57 per cent to Rs 630.80 per quintal, with a business volume of 74 lots.

Marketmen said increased buying by traders and speculators on pick up in demand in the spot market due to marriage season mainly led to a rise in potato prices at futures trade.
