Potato prices rose by Rs 5.50 or 1.10 per cent at Rs 499 per quintal in futures trade, as traders enlarged their positions on domestic demand.

Restricted arrivals from producing regions also supported the uptrend.

Potato for June-month contract rose by Rs 5.50 or 1.10 per cent to Rs 499 per quintal in a trading volume of 182 lots.

The potato for current-month May contract also traded higher by Rs 2.80 or 0.58 per cent to Rs 487.60 per quintal in a trading volume of 55 lots.

Traders said, increased buying by speculators on heavy domestic demand mainly led to a rise in potato prices at futures trade.

They said restricted arrivals from producing belts in Haldwani and Agra also influenced the trading sentiment to some extent.
