Potato prices rose by Rs 12.70, or 2.99 per cent, to Rs 437.60 per quintal in futures trade today on strong spot demand.

Restricted supplies from producing regions also supported the hike.

Potato for September month contract traded higher by Rs 10.50, or 2.58 per cent, to Rs 416.60 per quintal with a business volume of 361 lots, while March month delivery went up by Rs 10, or 1.81 per cent, to Rs 561.90 per quintal in 13 lots.

Marketmen said a firm trend at the spot markets on strong demand mainly influenced potato prices at futures market.

Traders said restricted arrivals from producing belts due to heavy rains also supported the hike in potato prices.
