Potato rises by 1.1% on spot demand

Pick up in demand amid decline in arrivals from producing region influenced prices

Potato prices rose by 1.05% to Rs 892.30 per quintal in futures trade today as speculators created fresh positions, driven by pick up in demand at the spot market amid decline in arrivals from producing region.
 
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, potato for delivery in April rose by Rs 9.30, or 1.05%, to Rs 892.30 per quintal in business turnover of 12 lots.
 
The potato for delivery in March also moved up by Rs 8.40, or 0.92% to Rs 918 per quintal in 40 lots.
 
Analysts said speculators created fresh positions, driven by pick up in demand in the spot market supported by ongoing marriage season amid decline in arrivals from producing region mainly pushed up potato prices at futures trade.
