Potato prices rose by Rs 5.70 to Rs 689.60 per quintal in futures trade today, as speculators enlarged their holdings on rising seasonal demand.

Restricted arrivals in the physical market fuelled the uptrend.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, potato for May rose by Rs 5.70, or 0.83 per cent to Rs 689.60 per quintal, with a business turnover of two lots.

Potato for delivery in March also moved up by Rs 4.80, or 0.73 per cent, to Rs 658.20 per quintal, with a business volume of single lot.

Marketmen said beside rising seasonal demand, less arrivals from producing regions mainly led to a rise in potato prices at futures trade here.
