Potato up 1.7% on fall in supply

Potato prices for delivery in the July contract traded higher by 0.84%

Potato futures prices rose 1.73% to Rs 801.90 per quintal in futures trade today as speculators enlarged positions driven by a rise in demand in the spot market.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, potato prices for delivery in August contracts rose by Rs 13.60, or 1.73%, to Rs 801.90 per quintal in business turnover of 28 lots.

Potato prices for delivery in the July contract traded higher by Rs 7, or 0.84%, to Rs 844 per quintal in 37 lots.

Analysts said speculators created fresh positions, triggered by a rise in demand in the spot market amid fall in supplies from producing regions mainly led to rise in potato prices at futures trade.
