Potato up 2.9% on strong demand

Commodity for delivery in March up by 1.3%

Potato prices surged by 2.99% to Rs 909.80 per quintal in futures market today as speculators enlarged positions largely supported by strong demand in the spot markets amid a firming trend at producing belts.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, potato for delivery in April surged by Rs 26.40, or 2.99%, to Rs 909.80 per quintal in business turnover of 8 lots.

The potato for delivery in March also shot up by Rs 12, or 1.33%, to Rs 915.90 per quintal in 83 lots.

Analysts said speculators enlarged their positions, driven by strong demand in the spot market supported by a firming trend at growing regions, mainly influenced potato prices at futures trade.
