Potato prices rose by Rs 23 to Rs 1,165.50 per quintal in futures trade today, as traders created fresh positions on the back of rising demand in the domestic market, improved further on restricted arrivals from producing regions.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, the May contract rose by Rs 23, or 2.01% to Rs 1,165.50 per quintal, with a trading volume of 283 lots.

The April contract also traded higher by Rs 19.20, or 1.90% to Rs 1,025 per quintal with a business volume of 180 lots.

Marketmen said the rise in potato prices at futures trade was attributed to the rising spot demand.

They said restricted arrivals in the markets from producing belts in UP, Punjab, MP and West Bengal also influenced the prices.
