Pre-Market: Markets likely to open higher

Asian cues supportive

The markets may see a green start on the back positive Asian cues.The SGX Nifty was up 20 points at 5954 at 700 am Indian Standard Time.

Technically, the Nifty is likely to seek support around 5,885-5,870, while face resistance around 5,930-5,945.

In the US markets, stocks posted a modest gain in thin, volatile trading as the weekly jobless claims slipped by 25,000 and ahead of the monthly government jobs report due today. Investors remained cautious about the looming "fiscal cliff" issue.

Nasdaq closed with half a percent gain following recovery in Apple. The CBOE volatility index closed above 16.

Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.3% or 39.55 points at 13074.04. Nasdaq Composite rose 0.52% or 15.57 points at 2989.27. Standard & Poor's 500 gained 0.33% or 4.66 points.

Asian markets are trading positive with Nikkei, Hang Seng, Strait Times and Kospi gaining 0.1-1%.

BHEL plans to invest up to Rs 2,000 crore for setting up solar equipment manufacturing facility having a capacity of 600 MW.

Wipro, which has interests in consumer care goods and lighting, besides IT services, on Saturday said it had signed a definitive agreement to acquire 100 per cent ownership in LD Waxsons, a Singapore-based FMCG company.
