Profit boost for portfolios

A spectacular rally on the back of strong global cues has helped our fund managers rake in the profits last week. However, the Smart Portfolios benchmark BSE 200 declined 5 per cent to 1,684 as against 1,773 the preceding week. The value of benchmark's portfolio appreciated sharply from Rs 9.45 lakh to Rs 9.95 for the week ended May 29, 2009. However, the net worth is still down marginally (0.52 per cent) since the inception of Smart Portfolios on September 1, 2008.

All the four fund managers were active last week and executed 58 trades, 34 of which were on the sell side. Cumulatively, the fund managers were net sellers of Rs 0.99 lakh. In the preceding week, fund managers had bought shares worth Rs 21.93 lakh.

 

Profit booking on holdings resulted in an increase in their net worth. Amar Ambani's net worth soared 34.46 per cent to Rs 13.45 lakh, Kashyap Pujara's net worth zoomed 31.48 per cent to Rs 13.15 lakh. Anand Agarwal's portfolio value has appreciated by 28.17 per cent while Sadanand Shetty's net worth has surged 27.18 per cent.

ANAND AGARWAL
Fund Manager, Reliance Money

With 21 trades last week, Anand Agarwal was the second most active manager. Of these, 12 were on the sell side. His net worth appreciated by 14.06 per cent to Rs 12.82 lakh last week from Rs 11.24 lakh in the preceding week. A large exposure to one stock - TRF - now accounts for 40 per cent of his total gains. He was a net buyer of stocks worth Rs 51,143.

Sadanand Shetty sold stocks worth Rs 41,349. Of the six trades he executed, four were on the sell side. His net worth rose 7.71 per cent to Rs 12.72 lakh as compared to Rs 11.81 lakh in preceding week.

He made profit in stocks like IVRCL Infra, Orbit Corporation and SBI in the range of 13-55 per cent. He exited from Balrampur Chini with marginal gains of 4 per cent. Shetty's total investments now stands at Rs 11.09 lakh, while his cash balance is at around Rs 1.63 lakh.

All the stocks in his portfolio are in the green up anywhere between 1 and 69 per cent, except HDFC which is down over 2 per cent.

KASHYAP PUJARA

Kashyap Pujara sold stocks worth Rs 1.34 lakh. Pujara exited from Reliance Communications and Ashok Leyland for gains of 12 to 58 per cent. He booked a profit of 58.3 per cent on EID Parry. At the end of the week, his net worth rose 8.14 per cent to Rs 13.15 lakh from Rs 12.16 lakh.
