The 30-stock BSE Sensex, which swinged in a wide range of around 80 points, shed 17.37 points to settle at 5,047.54. At the current level, the Sensex is still up 72.6 per cent from its low of 2,924.03 touched on 25 April 2003.
Meanwhile, the broader NSE S&P CNX Nifty lost 3.07 points to close at 1,612.20. Brokers said stock-specific movement was witnessed across sectors including shipping, steel, cement, paper, media, power and pharmaceutical surged.
