The contribution of public sector units (PSUs) to the market capitalisation of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) has gone up after the meltdown in stock prices. Their share accounted for 28.84 per cent of the total market cap of the bourse as of November 7, according to BSE data.
The rise in the contribution of PSU shares to the total market cap indicates that the shares of these companies have suffered less damage compared to the shares of private sector companies.
The total market cap of BSE as of November 7 was Rs 31,22,646 crore, of which the market cap of PSU shares accounted for Rs 9,00,523 crore, or 28.84 per cent, as per the BSE website.
The BSE market cap as of November 23 last year, when the market was fairly bullish, was Rs 61,77,579 crore, to which PSU shares contributed Rs 14,55,000 crore, or 23.56 per cent.
