Q1 Hopes Spool Up Counters

The Bombay Stock Exchange sensex closed 0.2 per cent higher at 3316.77 points today on expectations that the announcement of first-quarter results might have some unexpected and pleasant surprises in store.

The index has risen by around one per cent during the last few trading sessions. Dealers said there was a distinct positive sentiment in the air and though rallies were still scrip-specific and news-based, gainers outnumbered the losers. The volume of trade touched 15.75 crore shares today, the highest this week.
