Rally continues, Sensex gains 46 pts

Fresh buying has emerged in tech stocks, with select heavyweights also attracting considerable buying support after opening with decent gains.

The Sensex, as a result, has exhibited more strength and has touched a new high of 6,560. It is now up up 46 points at 6,559. The Nifty is up six points at 2,069.

Reliance has raced ahead to Rs 525 - up Rs 8 or 1.60%. While HLL is still marginally up at Rs 145, ITC is down a rupee at Rs 2,065.

Infosys (up Rs 8 to Rs 2,065) has shrugged off its weak opening trends. While Satyam has added 1.24% (Rs 5) to Rs 415, Wipro is also trading in the green at Rs 758 - up Rs 7.

HPCL, on further buying support, has advanced 2.85% (Rs 11) to Rs 399. While SBI is up a per cent (Rs 4) at Rs 617, ONGC continues to exhibit weakness, and has declined nearly 2% (Rs 14) to Rs 834.

BHEL has firmed up by 2% (Rs 15) to Rs 752. Other power scrips are trading with steady gains.

Bharti continues to trade at higher levels with a gain of 1.80% (Rs 4) at Rs 212. While Hindalco has clocked a per cent gain (Rs 14) to Rs 1,336, Tisco is up 2.26% (Rs 8) at Rs 382.

Nicholas Piramal, after getting a beating on the bourses yesterday, has registered 11.26% gains (Rs 33) to Rs 325. While HMT has notched up 8.86% gains to Rs 47, Ispat has moved up 6.54% to Rs 23. Sterlite Optical has advanced 6% to Rs 78, and IDBI has added 5.48% to Rs 113.
