REC surges on healthy quarterly numbers

Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) rose 4.86 per cent to Rs 187.6 on healthy quarterly numbers. The net profit rose 73 per cent to Rs 471.8 crore in the first quarter ended June 30, 2009, while total income rose 47.5 per cent to Rs 1,509 crore during the same period.

During the quarter, REC is believed to have sanctioned Rs15,137 crore, of which Rs.3,618 crore has already been disbursed to various power projects across the country. The stock made an intra-day high of Rs 188.8 and a low of Rs 175.25. Total traded volumes stood at 15 lakh shares, about three times higher of its two-week average.
