Record onion auction at Lasalgaon

A record 46,500 quintals of onions were auctioned in a single day at the Agriculture Produce Market Committee (APMC) at Lasalgaon here, APMC sources said.

The onions, brought for the auction in 1,602 vehicles yesterday, were sold at a minimum price of Rs 983 a quintal and a maximum price of Rs 1,499 a quintal, averaging a price of Rs 1,201 a quintal as per quality, APMC sources said today.

This is the first-time ever that an auction of such a huge quantity has taken place in a single day in the 61-year-old history of Lasalgaon APMC, the country’s largest onion market, sources said.

Meanwhile, 33,280 quintal onions were sold yesterday at Pimpalgaon Baswant’s APMC, fetching prices ranging from a minimum of Rs 751 to a maximum of Rs 1,451 a quintal, sources said.
