After several years, the mango growers in fruit belt of Uttar Pradesh have reason to enjoy. Unlike previous years the Dasheri production is set to create a new record this season.
According to an estimate, the production of Dasheri this year will cross 50 lakh tones which will be a record in itself. The last record production of Dasheri was 42 lakh tones in the year 2011.
According to mango growers of Malihabad, famous for Dasheri crop, the rates of mango will also be in the reach of common men this year. The rates of Dasheri which has hit the market on Thursday is around Rs 25 to Rs 40 per kg.
However the traders expect it to come down to Rs 10 per kg once the rains begin. Unlike other varieties the shelf life of Dasheri isnot much and due to this the rates come down when monsoon begins. The daheri season will continue till end of this month.
The spokesperson of the All India Mango Growers Association Shivsaran Singh told Business Standard that this year the traders in UP have orders from Europe and American countries apart from gulf.
He said that of around 50 lakh tones of produce only 4 to 5 lakh will be consumed in UP while the rest will be sent to other states and overseas.

Mumbai and Delhi are the biggest consumers of Dasheri in the country while in Gulf countries Dasheri is being sent for the last two decades. Singh said that the average productionof Dasheri in UP has not crossed 40 lakh tones in the last ten years.
Howeverdue to early summers this year the crop has been very good. The mango belt ofMalihabad is spread over an area of 22,000 hectares.
