The Bhimashankar Sugar Cooperative (BSC) run sugar factory in Pune district has crossed a significant milestone by exporting 16,000 metric tonnes of sugar to Georgia.
The consignment was shipped from the Mumbai port recently and is perhaps the largest sugar export order to have been executed by a sugar factory in the cooperative sector.
The achievement is significant in light of the state of most of the sugar cooperatives in Maharashtra.

Shivaji Adhalrao, chairman of the Bhimashankar Sugar Cooperative and CMD of Dynalog India Ltd alongwith Vijay Wable, MD, Bhimashankar Sugar Cooperative were personally present to supervise the shipment. BSC was able to export 60 Icumsa sugar in Woven PP bags of 50 kg capacity.
Speaking on the occasion, Adhalrao said that BSC was among the most modern and technologically equipped sugar factory in the state.
The sugar factory has been the recipient of many national awards. These include national award for maximum crushing in the first year of production and the optimum utilization of IT.
Adhalrao also stated that strict fiscal controls and the best manufacturing practices adopted by BSC were responsible for optimum performace at a time when most of the sugar cooperatives in Maharashtra are facing financial crisis.
The Bhimashankar Sugar Cooperative is incidentally promoted by Dilip Valse-Patil, minister for energy in Maharashtra with the active support of NCP leader, Sharad Pawar.
