Recovery reversed, Sensex drops 366pts

The Sensex had recovered sharply and touched a high of 10,109 - down jus 11 points from previous close. The index, however, has slipped back deeper into red owing to a fresh round of selling following higher than expected inflation numbers. The Sensex is now down 366 points at 9,754.

The Sensex has once again recovered partially and is now down 203 points at 9,917.

Tata Steel and Tata Motors have slumped over 12% each to Rs 190 and Rs 159, respectively. Sterlite has plunged over 9% to Rs 243.

Bharti Airtel and Reliance have plunged 6% each to Rs 643 and Rs 1,193, respectively. Hindalco has shed 5.5% at Rs 58.

 

Tata Power has dropped 3.8% to Rs 717. Infosys and HDFC Bank have declined 3.3% each to Rs 1,276 and Rs 1,059, respectively.

HDFC has slipped nearly 3% to Rs 1,700. Reliance Infrastructure and Reliance Communications are down around 2.5% each at Rs 506 and Rs 221, respectively.

Ranbaxy has surged 5% to Rs 219.

Hindustan Unilever, Mahindra & Mahindra and ITC have rallied around 2% each to Rs 243, Rs 383 and Rs 173, respectively.

Jaiprakash Associates has advanced 1.5% to Rs 82.

The market breadth is fairly negative - out of 2,473 stocks traded so far, 1,665 have declined, 737 have advanced and 71 are unchanged.
