Profit-taking in select heavyweights followed with weakness in banking and other select old economy stocks has seen the index shed some of its gains in mid-noon trades. The Sensex, as a result, is now up 51 points at 7,200, while the Nifty is steady at 2,212 - up 18 points. The market breadth remains positive, although the gap between gainers and losers have reduced to a considerable extent. While 1,368 stocks have advanced, 1,073 declined and 62 have remained unchanged. ITC has flared up 3.48% (Rs 56) to Rs 1,660, while ONGC has gained 2% (Rs 20) to Rs 988. Reliance Industries (up Rs 8 or 1.27% to Rs 663) and Reliance Energy (up Rs 8 or 1.21% to Rs 652) have pared gains on profit-taking. Reliance Industires counter has clocked a volume of 31 lakh. Infosys and Wipro are still up a per cent each at Rs 2,335 (up Rs 22) and Rs 756 (up Rs 6), respectively. TCS, however, is trading lower at Rs 1,322. HDFC Bank has gained 2.21% (Rs 13) to Rs 593. SBI (down Rs 5 to Rs 674) and ICICI Bank (down Rs 4 to Rs 414) are displaying a subdued trend. Tata Motors has moved up 2.30% (Rs 10) to Rs 440. Bajaj and Maruti are up a per cent each at Rs 1,327 (up Rs 10) and Rs 476 (up Rs 4), respectively. Hero Honda (down Rs 13 or 2% to Rs 590), however, is still trading with steep losses. L&T has notched up 2.76% gains (Rs 31) to Rs 1,168, while BHEL is trading higher by 2.60% (Rs 22) at Rs 871. HDFC, however, is down a per cent (Rs 8) at Rs 843. ACC has slipped a per cent (Rs 3) to Rs 381. Other cement counters are displaying a divergent trend. Reliance Capital has vaulted 13.22% (Rs 45) to Rs 386, with a traded volume of over 1.38 crore on the BSE. |
