The Sensex, mirroring the global trend, opened with a negative gap of 39 points at 11,368, and dropped to a low of 11,297 in early morning deals. Buying emerged in noon deals, led by Reliance, and the index zoomed to a high of 11,567 - an intra-day swing of 270 points - towards the closing bell. The Sensex finally finished with a gain of 125 points (1.10%) at 11,532. The BSE Metal and Oil & Gas indices closed with gains of over 2% each at 8251 and 5562, respectively. The BSE Auto, PSU and Teck indices also finished with gains today. Frentic buying in late deals saw the market mood turn bullish...Out of 2,548 scrips traded, 1,346 moved up, 1,121 declined and 81 were unchanged today. Index Movers & Shakers Reliance zoomed over 4% (Rs 45) to Rs 1,106. SBI moved up over 1% Rs 11) to Rs 874. Hindalco gained nearly 4% (Rs 6) to Rs 168. Tata Steel added over 2% (Rs 11) to Rs 517. Gujarat Ambuja zoomed over 3% (Rs 4) to Rs 114. ACC advanced over 2% (Rs 18) to Rs 912. Bharti gained 2.4% (Rs 10) to Rs 415. Reliance Communications moved up over 2% to Rs 296. Hero Honda moved up 1.8% (Rs 13) to Rs 713. Tata Motors was up 1.5% (Rs 13) at Rs 860. Bajaj and Maruti also finished with gains. Top Trades Reliance topped the value chart with trades of over Rs 302 crore followed by Bombay Dyeing (Rs 124 crore), Tata Steel (Rs 72 crore), Satyam (Rs 60 crore) and Reliance Capital (Rs 59 crore). Hindustan Motors topped the volume chart with trades of over 42 lakh shares followed by Spice (37 lakh), LG Balakrishnan & Bros (35 lakh), Mahindra Gesco (29 lakh) and Reliance (27 lakh). |
