The markets opened the week on a mildly positive note. However, the rise was on low volumes which indicated that the rally may be short.
Indeed, the markets went into a tailspin for the rest of the week with results from Reliance and Satyam adding to the action. The Reliance results were not particularly well received by the markets, however the Satyam results provided a bit of succour.
The fact that Thursday was the day on which the April contracts expired saw unwinding in the derivatives market, which resulted in the Sensex slipping to a new six-month low. At the end of the week, the BSE Sensex had lost 60.47 points or 2.02 per cent from its previous week
