But for a good groundnut crop in Gujarat and a normal soyabean crop in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Rajasthan, the entire kharif oilseeds estimates would have been grim leading to an increased reliance on imports.
Apart from a major increase in groundnut production, there has been a marginal or zero increase in the oilseeds output in the country, according to the revised estimates compiled by the VMA Oilseeds Research and Development Institute (Vordi).
