Reliance Industries (RIL) has rallied nearly 6% to Rs 868 in noon deals on the BSE on back of heavy volumes. The stock opened at Rs 825 and has seen over two-fold jump in trading volumes on the counter.
At 1340 hours, a combined 5.8 million shares already changed hands as against an average of 2.6 million shares that were traded daily in past two weeks on the BSE and NSE.
RIL, which holds third highest weight in the Sensex after ITC and Infosys, has contributed nearly one-third of over 300 points rally in the S&P BSE Sensex today.
Sensex was up 321 points at 21,834.65. The index rallied today to its fresh lifetime high of 21,866.51.
Meanwhile, the stock is still trading lower by 6.5% against its 52-week high of Rs 928 touched in July last year. It hit a record high of Rs 1,626 in January 2008.
