RIL surges 5%, biggest contributor to market rally

Shares of Reliance Industries (RIL), the country's most valued company in terms of market value, today jumped over 5% on bourses, helping the benchmark Sensex gain nearly 500 points.

Shares of the company settled 5.09% higher at Rs 797.85 on BSE. The energy major alone contributed nearly 85 points to the overall rally in the stock market.

On NSE, the scrip closed at Rs 798.65, up 5.20%.

RIL commands 10.58% weight in the Sensex.

Led by gains in the shares of RIL, the BSE Oil & Gas index, too, ended 3.47% higher at 8,416.67.

Surge in the bellwether stock was significant in the rally in the broader market, with the key index Sensex closing 2.95% or 472.93 points up at 16,524.03.
