The Indian rupee advanced further by 17 paise to Rs 44.52 against the US dollar in early trade today on persistent selling of dollars by banks and exporters in view of sustained foreign capital inflows into the equity market, coupled with a lower dollar overseas.

The rupee resumed higher at Rs 44.67/68 per dollar at the Interbank Foreign Exchange as against yesterday's closing level of Rs 44.69/70 per dollar and moved up further to Rs 44.52 per dollar before quoting at Rs 44.56/57 per dollar at 1030 hours.

The domestic currency moved in a range between Rs 44.52 and 44.70 per dollar in morning deals.

In New York, the euro rose to a three-week high against the dollar yesterday after Greece's Parliament approved legislation for implementing stringent austerity measures.

Traders also drew comfort from reports saying German banks may agree to a plan to roll over Greek debt as part of a new bailout plan to help the Mediterranean nation avoid default.
