The Indian rupee fell by 10 paise against the US dollar in early trade today, led by a weak opening on domestic bourses even as the American currency lost ground against other major currency rivals.

The domestic unit was trading 10 paise lower at Rs 45.32 a dollar in early trade at the Interbank Foreign Exchange here.

The rupee had closed 9 paise higher at Rs 45.22/23 against the greenback in the previous session after an eleventh hour rally in the stock market amid dollar weakness overseas.

Forex dealers said the weak opening on the stock markets this morning weighed on the rupee's fortunes in early trade.

Meanwhile, the 30-share Sensex index of the Bombay Stock Exchange fell by 92.97 points to 19,837.67 in opening trade today.
