Salt Makers May Pass On Extra Rail Freight

Common salt is likely to become dearer by Rs 1-2 per kg for the Indian consumer because salt manufacturers across the country are contemplating passing on the 120-135 per cent increase in rail freight to the end-buyer.

Major FMCG companies including Cargill and Hindustan Lever have increased the prices of their branded refined salt by Rs 1-7 per kg. However, this time it is the manufacturers themselves who are tinkering with the idea of a price hike.
