Satyam futures in focus

Volumes in the derivatives segment remained more or less stagnant with the NSE recording a turnover of Rs 6,849 crore with a total of 2.38 lakh contracts being traded. The total outstanding open interest in the segment was of the order of 24.44 crore shares.
 
Index futures saw a turnover of Rs 1,514 crore and the outstanding open interest position was 1.2 crore shares. Turnover in the stock futures segment was Rs 4,367 crore and the outstanding open interest was 16.72 crore shares.
 
In the futures segment, the most actively traded contracts were those of Maruti Udyog, Satyam, Tata Steel, Tata Motors and TCS among others in terms of value.
 
Tisco's open interest at the end of the day was 1.55 crore shares, Tata Motors 93 lakh shares, Maruti 79.78 lakh shares, Arvind Mills 85.31 lakh shares and Reliance 79 lakh shares.
 
In options, among calls the most active contracts were those of Satyam at strikes of 380, 370 and 390, Tisco at a strike price of 260 and TCS at a strike of 1,000.
 
In puts, Satyam was the most popular at strikes of 380, 370, 390 and 360 and Tisco at a strike price of 260.
 
The Nifty futures all continued to trade at a discount to the spot Nifty which closed at 1,685.55. The September series closed at 1,677, the October series ended at 1,671.45 and the November series closed at 1,668.70. The gap between the futures and spot value has been increasing of late.
