The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) today said it had started implementing a data warehouse (DW) platform to enhance investigation and surveillance capabilities.

Data warehousing allows an organisation to electronically store a large amount of information. “The data warehousing tool will allow Sebi to exploit the power of modern technology in terms of computation and speed of data analysis,” said Sebi.

Sebi has signed a contract with TCS to design and deliver the project. The platform chosen is of Netezza and SAP business objects. The rollout of the project took place on Monday with Sebi Chairman C B Bhave receiving the first set of reports from the system. A data warehousing and business intelligence system would also allow Sebi, along with the similar tools available with the exchanges and depositories, to expedite investigations and quasi-judicial orders, it said.

Over the next one year, the DW Platform will also host pattern recognition algorithms that will monitor the trade and order data received by Sebi to identify networked clients who possibly collectively indulge in violations of securities laws.
